What do I get for free?
Recording, the full timeline editor including zooms you place yourself, the keystroke HUD, editor context capture, secret masking, on-device transcription and subtitles, 25 Timeline Assistant messages per Mac, and unlimited exports with no watermark and no signup. Fraime.it Pro adds the AI editing layer: Smart Zoom, smart trim, filler-word analysis, unlimited Timeline Assistant messages, and the MCP agent bridge.
What is the catch? Why are recording and editing free?
There is no catch. Recording and editing run on your Mac, so they cost us nothing to operate: no upload, no cloud storage, no server-side transcoding. That is why the recorder, the full timeline editor, on-device transcription, and unlimited exports are free with no account, no watermark, and no trial clock. What you pay for is the AI editing layer that decides where to zoom and what to cut, and the MCP bridge that lets a coding agent build the video for you. The Timeline Assistant also costs us money on every message it answers, which is why it has an included allowance instead of being unlimited.
Is the free tier a trial that expires?
No. There is no countdown, no expiry date, and no feature that stops working after a week. Exports are never capped and never watermarked, so a project you record and export today keeps working the same way next month whether or not you ever buy Pro.
Can Fraime.it hide API keys and other sensitive data?
Yes. Run the on-device OCR analyzer and it finds API keys, tokens, and similar credentials in the screen recording, and a manual Draw Rect tool lets you mark anything else. Detections are tracked across the clip, even when the content scrolls, and you can choose blur or pixelate. The mask is rendered in live preview and baked into the final export, so nothing sensitive ships in the rendered file.
Can I make vertical Shorts or social clips?
Yes. Fraime.it includes a Shorts template that switches the project to a 9:16 canvas, sets a 1080 x 1920 MP4 export, tightens the background framing, styles subtitles, adds an opening hook, and places the webcam for vertical video. You can also choose aspect presets like source, 16:9, Shorts 9:16, 4:3, 1:1, or a custom size.
Does Fraime.it support webcam background removal?
Yes. Webcam background controls live in the timeline. You can keep the original camera, remove the background with person segmentation, blur the background, or use green-screen keying with a key-color picker, auto-detect, strength, tolerance, edge softness, and spill reduction controls.
Can Fraime.it generate subtitles?
Yes. Subtitle transcription runs on your Mac with word-level timing, and the resulting subtitles can be edited and styled in the timeline. The Shorts template also applies a bolder vertical-video subtitle style.
What kinds of overlays can I add to a recording?
Fraime.it supports image overlays (PNG, JPEG), SVG overlays that stay sharp at any zoom, text replacement overlays for masking hard-coded strings, lower-third annotations, animations, and a built-in keyboard shortcut HUD. Everything lives in the same timeline alongside the screen, webcam, and audio tracks.
Does Fraime.it include background music?
Yes. The app ships with a built-in catalog of royalty-friendly tracks across Lo-Fi, R&B, Hip-Hop, Electro, and Rock styles, with per-project volume control mixed against your captured audio.
What can an AI agent actually do with Fraime.it?
Connect Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor over the local MCP bridge and an agent can run the whole chain. Give it one sentence describing a video and it writes the beats, rehearses them against the real screen, records the session, cuts the dead air, adds chapters, zooms, titles, transitions, and subtitles, checks the framing from rendered frames, and exports. It works on a web flow, a terminal session, an IDE walkthrough, or two windows at once. Every edit is a previewable plan, the app keeps control of the project and export, and the agent stops rather than guessing at logins, purchases, or ambiguous instructions. The bridge is a Pro feature: without a paid plan it answers the ping that reports your license state and refuses every other tool call.
Which AI features run on my Mac, and which do not?
Smart Zoom, smart trim, filler-word analysis, subtitle transcription, and credential detection all run on-device, though transcription downloads its model file once. The Timeline Assistant is the exception: when you chat with it, your request, recent conversation, limited timeline context, and any attached images are sent to our service to generate the response. Your recordings and exports are never uploaded as part of normal recording, editing, or export.
Does it capture editor context from VS Code?
Yes. The Fraime.it extension streams editor context from VS Code-family IDEs into the macOS app (file paths, language, cursor position, visible range, and function scope), without sending document contents or selected text.
How do app updates work?
Fraime.it is distributed as a direct macOS download and includes an in-app update checker powered by Sparkle when the release build is configured for updates. You can also download the latest stable DMG from the website.
How do I restore my purchase in the app?
Open Lemon Squeezy My Orders or your purchase receipt to get the license key, then open the macOS app and choose Account → Restore Purchase.
How is billing handled?
Fraime.it uses Lemon Squeezy for checkout and subscription management so billing, taxes, and renewals live in one place.
